Advocacy, education, and programming for youth and adults with autism
The Autism Connection Program is a collaboration and partnership between Wood County Society and Marshall University and the Marshall University Autism Training Center that provides opportunities for support, learning, and socialization to youth and adults with ASD.
“The West Virginia Autism Training Center (ATC), located at Marshall University, supports individuals with autism as they pursue a life of quality. A “life of quality” – for all people, really – can exist when one feels connected to a community, has available options and the ability to make choices, and lives among people who understand one’s needs.”
—Dr. Marc Ellison of Marshall University Autism Training Center
Individual services and programming include behavioral therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy as well as advocacy, educational resources, and seminars for parents, educators, and medical and mental health professionals.
The Autism Connection includes:
Education: Educational seminars are held to assist youth, families, healthcare professionals, and mental health professionals in understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Programming: Services such as Speech Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy to assist youth and adults in development and growth.
Advocacy: Autism Advocacy to allow for the education and services to grow within the Mid-Ohio Valley. Autism Advocacy will allow the formation of community support, familial support, and events that will bring the Autism Community together.

Sensory Camp: Youth enjoy a three-day camp providing sensory intervention, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social groups, and art in the form of therapy in collaboration with the Artbeat Studio!
Social Groups: Social Groups are scheduled monthly to assist youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder to build skills in healthy relationship(s), fine and gross motor skill enhancement as well as sensory processing.
Direct Care: Through collaboration, direct and individualized treatment plans for youth and families are established. Through a one-on-one approach, we maximize skills while celebrating the uniqueness of each individual who participates. (This option is only available to West Virginia Residents).
